Clinics and Services

We strongly support the emphasis and trend towards health education and self reliance. Each person is largely responsible for their own state of health. Prevention is better than cure and many serious conditions can be prevented by a healthy lifestyle without the need for drugs and treatment. The doctors, and in particular, the practice nurses, are able and ready to offer help and encouragement.

The following services are offered, by appointment:

Phlebotomy

From July 2009 we are now able to offer blood tests within the surgery.  Our phlebotomist will be based at the Hockley surgery and can offer blood tests by appointment only.  Please ring either surgery number to make an appointment.  A few appointments will be avaiable at our Rayleigh surgery for those patients unable to travel to Hockley.

Primary Prevention
Advice on smoking, diet, exercise and immunisation.

Screening
Cervical smears, blood pressure checks, cholesterol tests, audiology tests.

Contraception
We are able to provide full and confidential advice on contraceptive care.

Maternity Care
This is supported whenever requested.

Child Development Clinic
To monitor child development in the under fives.

Medical Examinations And Reports Not Covered By The NHS
Certain examinations are not covered by the NHS. These include medicals for HGV licences, PSV licences, fitness for occupation, travel and sporting activities and also reports for insurance companies. The doctors are available for these examinations. Please telephone the surgery for an appointment and for advice on the fee involved. Our scale is in accordance with the BMA recommended rates.

Minor Surgery
Minor surgery procedures, including wart removal, can be carried out at both surgeries, where necessary under local anaesthetic. The Jones Family Practice carries out HRT implants for both surgeries.

New Patients
New patients are asked to make an appointment to see the practice nurse when registering so that all important health details can be recorded. The nurse will check blood pressure, weight and urine and give general advice should it be needed.

Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre
Rayleigh surgery has been approved by the Department of Health as a Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre. This service is also available to non-registered patients. There is a fee involved for this service.

Children’s Immunisation
Children’s immunisations are performed by the nurse. Normally parents are sent appointments by the Health Authority when the children are due for immunisation. However, if such an appointment is not forthcoming parents can telephone the surgery to make their own appointment. Parents are welcome to speak to the practice nurses if they have any concerns regarding any of the recommended immunisations
